Cystoscopy is a procedure in which a small endoscope is passed into the urethra and then into the bladder to examine the lower urinary tract.

  • Diagnostic cystoscopy is done when preliminary investigations like ultrasound, X Ray, CT scan are non diagnostic or reveal a problem which needs endoscopic evaluation.

  • Cystoscopy may also be done to remove tissue samples for biopsy, to place ureteric stents and as an ancillary procedure during definitive surgery of the urinary tract.
